Charlotte County, Florida Inmate Search

An inmate search is the process of verifying an individual’s incarceration status in Charlotte County. When a person is arrested in the county by law enforcement, they are transported to the Charlotte County Jail, where they await their court appearance. The county jail is supervised by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. Members of the public who then want to obtain information about the individual will have to perform an inmate search. A search grants researchers access to the inmate’s arrest information and custody details.

How to Find an Inmate in Charlotte County Jail

There are several ways an individual can find an inmate in the Charlotte County Jail. Jail records are primarily maintained by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, and the easiest and most convenient way to locate an inmate is to search through the Sheriff’s Local Arrest Database. The database contains information about individuals who have been apprehended and detained in the county jail. Another way to locate an inmate in the Charlotte County Jail is by phone. Researchers may call the Charlotte County Jail at (941) 833-6300 to obtain basic information about an inmate.

While online searches and phone inquiries may be instant and often sufficient to verify an inmate’s status, the inquirer may not have access to the inmate’s comprehensive record. To obtain a comprehensive record, individuals may file a Public Records Request with the Sheriff’s Office. Requesters should be as specific as possible when describing the record they need, ensuring the inmate’s name and booking number are included. If the booking number is unknown, a search can be made on the arrest database to obtain it.

How to Send Money to an Inmate in Charlotte County Jail

The Charlotte County Jail sets up an account for an individual when they are being booked. Because inmates are not allowed to physically carry or keep cash in jail, any cash they have on them is collected and deposited into their accounts, which becomes the primary way they spend money in jail. An inmate’s family and friends can also deposit money into this account for the inmate. An inmate is considered indigent when their balance stays at $1.99 or less for seven consecutive days or more.

All inmates (excluding Contract Inmates and State Inmates incarcerated as witnesses) are assessed an initial intake charge and a daily housing fee under Fla. Stat. § 951.033. However, those charges are only actually deducted when there is enough money in the account to cover them.

Family/friends can deposit money into an inmate’s commissary account (the account created for them at booking) through a third-party provider. Funds may be deposited via the provider’s website, by phone, or in person at the provider’s kiosk at the video visitation lobby. Cash deposits can only be made at the kiosk, and there are fees associated with each deposit. Money orders and cashier’s checks are also accepted, but only to pay off a lien, not for regular spending deposits.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

The Charlotte County Jail is the only detention facility in the county, so all individuals arrested in the county are held there. Individuals can conduct an inmate search on the Sheriff’s Office Local Arrest Database and by calling or visiting the jail. For detailed information, individuals can make a Public Records Request to the Sheriff’s Office.

Charlotte County Visitation Rules and Schedules

To sustain relationships with family and friends, inmates at the Charlotte County Jail are permitted to receive visitors. However, individuals who want to visit an inmate have to use the video visitation system, as face-to-face visits are no longer the standard for the general public. Visitation in the jail is handled by two third-party providers.

Individuals must schedule a visit on either vendor’s website or at the kiosk in the visitation building before they can visit an inmate. Visits must be requested at least 24 hours in advance and may be held on-site or remotely from the visitor’s home. On-site visitation runs in one-hour blocks as seen below.

Monday to Friday

  • 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m
  • 2:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m
  • 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m
  • 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m

  • 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Each inmate gets two free one-hour visits per week. After that, visitation may cost a fee.

Below are the general visitation guidelines for visitors:

  • A visit may consist of one adult, an adult and a minor, but not two adults. Two adults may only visit the same inmate if they are not sharing the same visitation hour.
  • Adult visitors must present their government-issued ID at the facility.
  • All minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and may not be left alone anywhere on the premises.
  • Visitors are expected to dress appropriately, or they will not be allowed to visit.
  • Visitors should not bring any personal items to give to the inmate.

Important Notes

  • Visitation in the Charlotte County Jail is considered a privilege and can be revoked as a disciplinary measure or for security concerns.
  • Bringing weapons, drugs, or contraband when visiting can result in arrest.

Mailing and Commissary Information

Individuals may send mail to an inmate provided they adhere to the stated guidelines. Mail sent to an inmate can be classified as personal or legal mail. Personal mail is not received directly by the jail. Instead, individuals must send it to a third-party facility, where the mail is scanned before being made available to the inmate. Legal mail is treated differently and goes directly to the jail instead of the scanning address. Legal mail should be addressed in this way.
